ABOUT FORAS

OUR MISSION: To help the animals at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter by fundraising and allocating money and resources to keep the shelter no-kill and give every animal, young or old, the best chance of a safe and healthy life. Through efforts in advocacy, education, and community involvement, we strive to inspire an environment where the animal-human bond is celebrated, respected and nurtured.

Friends of Oak Ridge Animal Shelter (FORAS) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.

FORAS is a self-funding organization primarily supporting the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter and its’ medical needs outside the purview of the spay/neuter veterinarian. Prior to FORAS’ establishment in 2015, animals at the shelter could be euthanized for poor behavior, injury, illness or simply to make space.

Between FORAS’ funding for extra care and the efforts by the shelter’s robust foster team (socializing, daily walking, adoption events, and transport to northern states), FORAS has maintained a "no-kill" status for eight years! Now, ALL the animals that find their way to the shelter receive proper medical care and are given a realistic chance to enjoy a happy life. All the funds we raise are allocated to facilitate fosters, provide medical care, promote training, and enable transports.
